Michael Engler
Medical Director
Dr. Michael Engler, VMD and medical director at VCA French Creek, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000, then worked as a mixed-animal veterinarian in southern Chester county, caring for horses, goats, cows, sheep, and the occasional pig.
Why I do What I Do: As a kid, Dr. Engler wanted to be a surgeon, an interest that combined with a passion for working with animals when he was a junior in college. It was a marriage made in heaven!
At French Creek, he enjoys performing soft tissue surgery and orthopedic procedures such as cruciate repairs and some fracture repairs. He also sees patients throughout their life-cycle, and the people and pets love him.
Dr. Engler specializes in cats and dogs, but his love for larger animals has stayed with him. At home with his wife and two children live cats, dogs, and a pig—of course. "I owned a pot-bellied pig as a teenager, and my daughter had been asking for one," he says. One night, a friend found a stray pig wandering on the road and called the Englers (Dr. Mike's wife is a vet, too). "When we couldn't find the owners, Pumba became part of the family!"
Outside of work Dr. Engler enjoys cooking, hiking and spending time with his family.
