Dr. Anika Colopy Kurtz was born in Germany and moved to Maryland with her family at age 11. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a BA in Philosophy and a BS in Animal Sciences in 2006 and then moved to California to attend the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, obtaining her veterinary degree in 2010. Within the field of veterinary medicine, she is especially interested in emergency medicine, feline medicine, neurology, and acute and chronic pain management of dogs and cats.
Glad to have escaped the east coast humidity and rain, she enjoys outdoor activities and always appreciates new suggestions for hiking and backpacking. Although her clinical focus is in small animal medicine, she also has a passion for horses and equestrian sports. Her horse's name is Turbo, a retired race horse that she adopted from a rescue organization. They enjoy competing in Eventing (dressage, cross-country and show jumping). She also shares her home with Yuri, a Black Russian Terrier, and two three-legged cats (Chan Chu and Sanzuwu).
Dr. Colopy considers herself fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a wonderful staff and learn from her patients and clients every day.
Doctors are on site and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to provide the finest medical care when your family veterinarian is unavailable. Patients are seen as walk-ins without appointments and as transfer referrals from your veterinarian. We have state-of-the-art therapeutic and diagnostic aids available for our experienced veterinarians and support staff.
Your pet will be seen by one of our emergency veterinarians as promptly as possible. Conditions requiring immediate treatment or involving life-threatening problems will be our first priority. Once stable, your pet may be released to you, returned to your primary veterinarian for continued care or transferred to one of our specialists should you and your family veterinarian elect to do so.
After your pet's comprehensive examination, presumptive diagnosis and prognosis, an estimate will be presented detailing recommended diagnostics and treatment. Your family veterinarian will also be notified/updated of your pet's visit via phone calls and faxes. Our staff is available 24/7 to answer questions about your pet's care.
