Metronomic Therapy
Metronomic chemotherapy is frequently administered, low-dose chemotherapy which is administered as pills at home. This form of therapy differs from traditional (high-dose) chemotherapy in that it generally is not designed to kill tumor cells, but rather targets the immune system and the formation of new blood vessels that tumors require to continue growing. Therefore they are useful in slowing progression of the cancer. Their benefits involve generally fewer visits to the vet hospital (typically once a month to monitor physical exams and bloodwork) as well as being better tolerated than traditional chemotherapy with a lower incidence of side effects.
