Dr.Brown attended Veterinary School at the University of Wisconsin where she graduated in 1999. She then went on to do her Residency training at the University of Illinois which she completed in 2004.
Dr. Brown came to NWVS shortly after completing her small animal internal medicine residency in Illinois in 2004, and has been happy to call this hospital home ever since. She enjoys both the camaraderie and breadth of knowledge and experience of her colleagues, as well as the ability to provide 24-hour critical care and emergency evaluation to her patients. Within internal medicine, Dr. Brown has a special interest in endocrinology, geriatric medicine, immune-mediated disease, and the gastrointestinal microbiome. She founded and runs our radioactive iodine therapy program for hyperthyroid cats. Dr. Brown is skilled in a variety of procedures, including endoscopy, placement of feeding tubes, fecal transplantation, and bone marrow sampling. She enjoys getting to know both her patients and her clients, and values the long term relationships she forges with them.
Dr. Brown enjoys hiking, yoga, and swimming. She recently rekindled her childhood love of horses and has been getting reacquainted with the equestrian lifestyle. A lifelong vegetarian, she loves to cook and fantasizes about being the first vegetarian-veterinarian winner of Top Chef. She lives in north Portland with her husband, Philip, an architect and designer. They are devoted to their terrier mix Beans!, goldendoodle Otter, and cat Scrimshaw, who rules the roost and outweighs Beans! by a good five pounds.
