Orthopedic Surgery
Broken bones are a common problem in emergency situations, and often result from being hit by a car. The most common type of broken bone repair is to use a Dynamic Compression Bone Plate. The metal plate is placed on the bone, spanning the fracture site with 2 to 4 screws one each side of the bone plate which hold it to the bone. This type of internal fixation provides proper alignment of the bone and good stability at the fracture site. With good high protein nutrition, vitamins and an 8-12 week period of confinement bone plating will produce very good results in repairing the fracture. Our hospital is able set and plate broken bones resulting from pet accidents.
If our veterinarians feel your pet has a more advanced condition, they may recommend a referral to a board certified veterinary Orthopedic Surgeon.
